'You just don't understand us!'
Modified By naomi on 24/09/2009 12:18:11)

I’ve often heard people in the third sector say that the government, and local authorities, don’t really understand third sector organisations. ‘Real Times’ is a programme of in-depth research studying how third sector organisations actually work in practice over time. To help us develop our research questions, it would be really helpful to know what people really mean when they say the government doesn’t understand the sector. What is it that governments, local authorities and others don’t understand?

Re: 'You just don't understand us!'

Ok so I am a poor Brown Owl in a district of other poor units working in a hut which needs a huge amount of money spending on it to make it a wonderful place for our young girls to meet and make decisions, work together to make a real difference to life and we apply for grants and get one.... what for "outdoor play equipment" - we have a park opposite which has been fabulously refurbished recently but we can't use it because we don't have enough volunteers.  We need the government grants to be able to be used to maintain not just create new... we need to be able to recruit more volunteers with huge advertising and creative ideas supported by those who know how to do this... but where do we find the money to pay for them... the parents are poor and paying for resources for their girls already... we can't charge any more or give any more than we already do and we all want to give more. In our centenary year what can we do that we are not already doing? please Rob get them to support existing charities that need maintaining in this climate of economic depression and fear.  stop putting "white wash" over the problems of society, we really need to get back to basics---- how to sew buttons on and polish our shoes and have a pride in our charitable organisations that have stood the test of time without the government restricting or pushing us into "new" ideas, ideals and a whole new language of VCS and CG and constituent giving.....
