David Mullins

Professor of Housing Policy, TSRC, University of Birmingham

David Mullins is leading the TSRC housing stream, which is currently undertaking scoping studies of housing associations, the mutual and cooperative housing sector, the homelessness advice and support sub-sector and tenants and community organisations. He is also supporting TSRC’s links in Northern Ireland with the Social and Policy Research Institute at the University of Ulster.

David is currently involved in an innovation and good practice study for the Tenant Services Authority, a two year action research project on social investment performance in the housing association sector. He is also involved in a three year research partnership on post-merger organisational change with a large English housing association.

Experience
David Mullins has led longitudinal studies of the role of third sector housing organisations in England and Ireland using qualitative methodologies including the Delphi technique. His research on organisational change in third sector housing includes: studies of mergers; the transfer of public housing to the third sector; partnerships with refugee community organisations; and the impact of organisational scale on accountability. His comparative research experience was strengthened by secondments to the Centre for Voluntary Action Studies at the University of Ulster (1999) and the Technical University of Delft (2007).

David is Director of Research in CURS and a member of the departmental management team and of the Birmingham Business School Research and Knowledge Transfer Committee.
