Dr Alice Mills
Alice is working on a two year project (with Dr Rosie Meek) examining the role of Third Sector Organisations (TSOs) in criminal justice. The project examines several issues, including: the strategic position of TSOs within the criminal justice system; relationships between TSOs and the statutory sector; the role of TSOs in the resettlement of offenders; and the impact of volunteering on offenders and ex-offenders, with particular reference to desistance from crime.
Experience
Alice is a part-time Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Southampton. Her research interests include imprisonment, mental health, substance misuse and medication adherence in prisons, female offenders, resettlement and desistance from crime, and the role and importance of prisoners’ family relationships. She is currently co-authoring a book on prisons and imprisonment (with Helen Codd). She teaches several courses including Introduction to Criminology, Criminological Perspectives, Crime Prevention and Community Safety and Applied Social Science in Policy and Practice.
